One Piece sealed battle rules: packs, Leaders and 40-card decks
Confirm the format before booking: a release event can be Constructed or Sealed, and the decks work differently.
The short version
- Bandai's Sealed rules suggest six booster packs per player and require a 40-card main deck plus ten DON!! cards.
- Sealed removes the Leader colour restriction for deck construction and the usual four-copy limit, but card effects retain their printed requirements.
- The OP-18 4th Anniversary Event lets stores choose Constructed or Sealed; confirm your store's format and Leader policy before attending.
One Piece Sealed means building a 40-card deck from the packs opened at the event. Bandai's linked rules recommend six packs per person, allow any deck colours and remove the four-copy cap. You still need a Leader and ten DON!! cards. Ask the store which Leader rules its event uses before choosing what to bring.
This matters for the OP-18 4th Anniversary Event: stores can run Constructed or Sealed. A release-event ticket alone doesn't tell you whether you'll open packs to build a deck or bring a finished one.
What changes from Constructed
| Detail | Sealed under the linked PDF | Normal Constructed |
|---|---|---|
| Main deck | 40 cards from your opened pool | 50 cards |
| Colours | Any colours in the main deck | Match the Leader |
| Copies of one number | May exceed four within your opened pool | Usually four maximum |
| Unused pool | Sideboard; changes allowed between games | Follow the tournament's rules |
The PDF also says Sealed has no banned or restricted cards and allows you to bring a Leader from an older set. Those are the general document's provisions. Confirm event-specific restrictions with the organiser, especially if the event supplies a special Leader. Don't assume an old Leader is accepted because someone used it at a different store.
Colour freedom does not rewrite card effects
A blue Leader can have red Characters in its Sealed deck. That permission changes deck construction. An effect that searches a named type still needs that type; a discount for blue Events still applies only to blue Events. Check each condition before putting a card in your forty.
Our deck-building guide explains the normal rules. For Sealed, read expensive Characters and trait-dependent cards particularly carefully: a strong effect may have few targets in the pool you opened.
Prepare and build your deck
Your Sealed checklist
Confirm the listing
Ask about Constructed versus Sealed, pack count, allowed Leaders, entry fee and round timing. Use the event's instructions if they differ from the general PDF.
Pack your supplies
Bring ten DON!! cards, sleeves, your permitted Leader and access to your registration. Ask whether the store supplies any of these.
Sort only the event pool
Separate playable Characters, Counters and Events, then choose forty. Keep every unused card separate as your sideboard; don't add cards from your collection.
Test the first few turns
Check that you can play early Characters and defend your hand. Prefer effects you can actually activate over a combination missing its required cards.
Keep the deck legal between games
The PDF permits swaps with your unused pool between games. Finish with forty cards and follow the organiser's procedure.
You keep the cards you open. If the format or a card interaction is unclear, ask staff before playing it. Bring the event listing with you so a disagreement about a supplied Leader can be resolved against the organiser's published instructions.
You can practise with physical cards over video; our Metaverse Lobby guide explains the camera setup.
Frequently asked questions
- Is One Piece Sealed a 40-card format?
- Yes. Bandai's Sealed PDF specifies a 40-card main deck and ten DON!! cards, separate from the Leader.
- Can I use any colour in Sealed?
- You can ignore the Leader's deck-building colour restriction. Conditions written inside card effects still apply.
- Is every release event Sealed?
- No. The OP-18 anniversary event permits stores to choose Constructed or Sealed. Check the specific event before registering.
- Can I use five copies of a card?
- Under the linked Sealed rules, yes, if all five came from your event pool. The normal four-copy limit is removed.
