Should you pre-order OP-18? What OP-16 and OP-17 prices tell us
We tracked the top printings of the last two main sets from launch week to today. The pattern is clear enough to plan an OP-18 budget around.
The short version
- Pre-ordering an OP-18 box near Bandai's suggested price of $4.99 per pack is reasonable if you want to open packs; pre-ordering expensive singles has usually been a losing bet.
- As of 18 October 2026, OP-16's 15 most valuable printings were a median 57% below their launch-week TCGplayer prices, and 14 of the 15 had fallen.
- As of 18 October 2026, OP-17's top printings with launch-week data were a median 40% below launch week, with 12 down and 2 up.
- OP-17's Treasure Rare, a parallel of Edward Newgate (OP17-040), fell from $155.34 in launch week to $42.79 by 18 October 2026.
- The most-wanted parallels held up best: OP-16's Sakazuki, Kuzan and Borsalino parallels were all within 10% of their launch-week prices.
Short answer: pre-order an OP-18 box if you want to open packs and can get it near Bandai's suggested price, and don't pre-order the expensive singles. We looked at the daily TCGplayer prices we collect for Bounty for the last two main sets. Their most valuable printings were worth much less weeks after release than in launch week, with a few big exceptions.
OP-18 The Dominance of God comes out on 20 November 2026 in English (here's what's confirmed), and stores are already taking pre-orders. Here's what the last launches looked like, and how we'd plan around it.
What happened to prices after OP-16 and OP-17 launched
| Set | English release | Printings with launch data | Median change since launch week | Down / up |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| OP-16 The Time of Battle | 12 June 2026 | 15 | -57% | 14 / 1 |
| OP-17 The World's Strongest Warriors | 28 August 2026 | 14 | -40% | 12 / 2 |
| EB-03 ONE PIECE Heroines Edition | 20 February 2026 | 15 | -36% | 14 / 1 |
These are TCGplayer Market Prices as of 18 October 2026 for each set's 15 most valuable printings. 'Launch week' is the median of the first three daily prices we recorded, and it can include pre-order prices. That's deliberate: it's roughly what you'd have paid by pre-ordering or buying on day one.
| Card | Launch week | 18 Oct 2026 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monkey D. Luffy (OP17-079, parallel) | $2,250.00 | $1,421.46 | -37% |
| Edward Newgate (OP17-040, Treasure Rare) | $155.34 | $42.79 | -72% |
| Shanks (OP17-022, parallel) | $1,450.62 | $1,486.69 | +2% |
| Sakazuki (OP16-065, parallel) | $1,224.12 | $1,111.83 | -9% |
| Monkey D. Luffy (OP16-022, parallel) | $152.42 | $31.74 | -79% |
| Zehahahahaha! (OP16-116, parallel) | $274.29 | $43.81 | -84% |
Two things stand out. The very top cards held up: OP-16's Sakazuki, Kuzan and Borsalino parallels are all within 10% of launch, and OP-17's Shanks is slightly up. The mid-tier chase cards, the $100–300 ones that make a pre-order feel exciting, fell hardest. That's where most of the money in a pre-order gets lost.
Pre-ordering a box vs pre-ordering singles
| What you pre-order | Risk | Our take |
|---|---|---|
| Box near the suggested price (24 packs, about $120) | Low, if you want to open it | Fine. You're paying for the opening, and the price is known. |
| Box well above the suggested price | Medium | Our data doesn't cover box prices, but the premium buys a few days' head start, not better odds. |
| Mid-tier chase single (SR, SP or parallel, $50–500) | High | Wait three to six weeks. This band fell hardest on OP-16, OP-17 and EB-03. |
| Top chase card of the set | Medium | The most-wanted parallels lost little. Pre-order only if you'd keep it anyway. |
| Commons and Rares for a deck | Low | Buy when you need them; they're cheap either way. |
How we'd plan an OP-18 budget
Planning OP-18 purchases around launch
Split the budget in two
Decide how much is for opening packs and how much is for specific cards. Mixing the two is how people open a box chasing a card that costs $40 a month later.
Pre-order sealed only at a fair price
A box near Bandai's suggested $4.99 a pack is a reasonable pre-order. Well above that, you're paying extra to open it a few days sooner.
Buy deck staples when you need them
If you're playing an event soon after launch, buy the Commons and Rares your list needs in week one. They won't save you much by waiting.
Wait three to six weeks on chase cards
Write down the cards you want and the price you'd pay for each. Every recent set we tracked had its mid-tier chase cards below launch-week prices weeks later.
Check current prices before you buy
Past sets don't guarantee the next one, and any number on this page is a snapshot. Look at the trend over a few weeks, not a single day.
When pre-ordering a single does make sense
If a card is a near-certain staple for a deck you'll play the week after launch, paying launch price buys you games, and that's worth something. The top collector cards also behaved differently from the rest. If you're after the single most iconic card in OP-18 and you'd keep it whatever happens, waiting may save you less than you'd think.

Frequently asked questions
- Should I pre-order an OP-18 booster box?
- If you want to open packs and can get a box near Bandai's suggested $4.99 per pack, a pre-order is reasonable. If you want specific cards, singles bought a few weeks after launch have usually been cheaper.
- Do One Piece card prices drop after release?
- For most chase cards, yes. As of 18 October 2026, OP-16's 15 most valuable printings were a median 57% below their launch-week TCGplayer prices, and OP-17's top printings with launch data were a median 40% below.
- How long should I wait to buy OP-18 singles?
- Three to six weeks is a reasonable rule of thumb. By then more product has been opened, and every recent set we tracked had its mid-tier chase cards below launch-week prices. Past sets don't guarantee the next one.
- Is an OP-18 Treasure Rare worth pre-ordering?
- Bandai hasn't said whether OP-18 has a Treasure Rare. OP-17's fell from $155.34 in launch week to $42.79 by 18 October 2026, so pre-ordering one at launch prices would have cost a lot.
